ABOVE: Michael Kors paints a
sheath dress Dreamsicle
orange ($1,495, Neiman
Marcus). Play up its Tangierish
drama with a necklace
by Ranjana Kahn ($450,
Neiman Marcus), Georgina
Goodman sandals ($410,
Hu’s Shoes, 3005 M St.
NW; 202-342-0202), a
minimalist Italian 18K gold
ring ($1,575, Tiny Jewel Box,
1147 Connecticut Ave. NW;

yellow patent leather clutch
by Marc Jacobs ($198,
Neiman Marcus).
Now, designers like Prabal Gurung, Max Mara and Akris are mixing pastels and neons and other combos that don’t traditionally match. The effect? Minimalist-yet-bold ensembles — a grape blouse with orange shorts, an aqua dress with yellow wedges — that’d get you noticed at a gallery opening or the office. The trick to pairing such bold pieces is, ironically, a lack of restraint.
