New in Stores: Art Cute

Glamorous in an “I-just-came-from-a gallery-opening” way, Ilaria Nistri’s drapey, architectural mini dresses and Moulin Rouge-y ruffled boleros recently hit the racks at 14th Street’s Muleh (1831 14th Street NW; 202-667-3440). Dip-dye fabrics and a killer, citified palette (that’s a few of her spring pieces above, via flickr) — in hues like cadet blue and granite [...]

Current Obsession: Lauren Merkin Carryalls

D.C.-raised, New York-based handbag designer Lauren Merkin — who I had the chance to interview for our spring issue — is best known for her signature clutch purses, which manage to be utlra-chic yet also able to hold a blackberry, camera, keys, lipstick, backup lipstick and almost anything else a gal could need.
This season, she’s [...]

Current Obsession: Lizzie Fortunato Jewels

As you probably saw in our latest issue, we’re pretty much infatuated with collar necklaces right now. (What better way to add some fun color all those slim, dark sheaths I bought this past winter?) My new favorite finds come from Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, by New York-based design darlings (and twins) Elizabeth and Kathryn Fortunato. [...]

D.C. is the new L.A. No wait! The new NYC!

Every national mag is hot on the D.C. beat this season. (Not that we mind. The more buzz, the better!) First, Marie Claire dubbed the District “the new L.A.” (newsflash: frozen yogurt and botox are on the rise!). Then Elle’s Joe Zee styled hip, young White House staffers in the new “Capital Cool” (yes, [...]

To Do: Valentino the Movie

We’re pretty excited that the much-acclaimed fash flick Valentino: The Last Emperor finally opened up in the D.C. area this week, popping up at the Loews Shirlington in Arlington. But if that’s not your side of the Beltway, fear not: Regal Bethesda 10 will also start showing it this Friday. From what we hear, the [...]

Current Obsession: Prints Charming

It’s definitely the season of the statement shoe — think Sergio
Rossi’s peeptoe platform snake charmers ($795 at Hu’s Shoes in Georgetown) or YSL’s iconic, sci-fi heroine cage sandals ($950 at YSL.com).
Still,
for something a bit more walkable but just as wowing, I’m craving a
printed pump like Lanvin’s grosgrain-trimmed purple, blue and black [...]
